"I don't want to kick down a door and eat a Fireball" *kicks door, eats Fireball.
I was recently informed of interest in a Pathfinder campaign. I'm more than happy to run one. But, in order for me to do that I first need to know the opinions of the players. I had a campaign in mind then I though it may not be a good idea to jump right into a deep complex story. I figure the DM should first get to know individual play styles and group dynamics. Also, the players need to become acquainted with the manner in which the DM runs sessions. With that said, I propose an introductory campaign. With your help I will write out a short campaign that will hopefully get us all comfortable playing together. The way I've run campaigns in the past is to let the players figure everything out on their own. I drop the breadcrumbs, you follow(but only if you want to). When creating characters I tend to allow the max point buy value or you roll. This is the method I use for rolling stats: roll 4d6 drop the lowest, add the rest and that's one ability, you do that 7 times drop the lowest. With rolling you can end up with two abilities at 18 or higher or you could end up with several abilities lower than 10, more often you wind up in the middle. I do add restrictions so you don't have a crippled character. Players usually dictate the flow of sessions, meaning if the party wants to go off on a tangent quest I'll allow it, on the other-hand if you spend half the session arguing over who gets what magic item I might step in. I would like feedback from you the players on what you'd like to see in a campaign and your expectations of a DM. Also we should discuss the logistics of the group, I.E. day/time/length of session.

Hola Pat!!! I'm looking forward to doing this. I can only really get together 1 or 2 Sundays a month, and I would prefer to start early afternoon (no later than 4pm) so that we can be done by 10 or 11. I do prefer the point buy method of assigning stats (Max point buy meaning 25 points?).
ReplyDelete~waits for two more comments~
ReplyDeleteSundays early afternoon work for me as well. I'm still toying with a few other ways to get stats but point buy will be an option. Yes, when I say max point buy I do mean 25(I couldn't remember the number when writing the blog). I've always gotten higher stats from rolling, but point buy is safe for those who don't roll well. If you plan on doing point buy you can only drop one stat below ten for the purpose of gaining points and no lower than seven. You can not have a score lower than six even after applying racial adjustments. Once I hear from everyone else I'll talk about character creation more. I still have a few home rules to discuss.

ReplyDeleteI reply for both Kittie and I, considering how much time we spend together and all. I have talked with you personally as well Pat so I think we are all good to go.
ReplyDeleteThe main issue being we don't have a time that we can all get together.
ReplyDeleteDoes Sundays not work for you?
ReplyDeleteneed to be home by 7:30
ReplyDeleteYou or your car? Because I can give you a ride to and from home if need be.
ReplyDeletenope have raid at 7:30
ReplyDeletefor the mini i plan on a social rogue probably, josh is looking at a evo wizard, still need to come up with backstory but knowing about the world would be nice mr procrastinator...
ReplyDeleteis next sunday good for everyone 3:00-7:00?
ReplyDeleteSo as it turns out, I really don't wan't to play if we only have 4 hrs to do it. Just not enough time to progress. sry yall.
ReplyDeleteFour hours should be fine as long we can stay on track. The mini campaign should only last a few sessions even if they are short. Hopefully by it's end we can work out a better playing schedule(or convince Phil to not have raid night on DnD night). Also, I may have just found a fifth player. We'll have to teach him but I'm sure he'll catch on quick. Plus most of the first session will be finishing up character generation and introduction to the world. I still have a post I've been putting off but it will be up in a day. I say we give it a shot Sunday see how it goes, if it's not enough we'll try working something else out. How's everyone feel about that?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I agree with Josh. When we all played together, there is always goofing off no matter how serious we attempt to be. That's just how we roll. We can barely have conversations in real life without running off the main subject and losing an hour of time.
